Does hardiplank rot?
Hardiplank is a fiber cement product, a durable material that does not decay like wood. It is engineered to be resistant to rot, termites, and moisture damage. While the material itself won't rot, it can still have problems if excessive moisture gets trapped.
What is the lifespan of fibre cement cladding?
The fibre cement product life is assumed to be 50 years, except for Villaboard™ Lining and Versilux™ lining with a product life of 60 and Hardie™ Deck system with 25 years.
What are common mistakes to avoid when installing cement board?
Not prepping the subfloor properly - If your subfloor isn't clean, level, and structurally sound, you're setting yourself up for problems down the road. Take the time to fix any squeaks or weak spots before you start.
Grabbing the wrong fasteners - Not all screws are created equal. You need corrosion-resistant screws that are the right length for your application. And if you're using adhesive, make sure it's compatible with cement board.
Forgetting about expansion gaps - Cement board needs a little breathing room. Leave about 1/8 inch between sheets so the material can expand and contract without buckling.
Skipping the seam treatment - Those joints between sheets aren't going to seal themselves. You'll want to apply fiberglass mesh tape and then cover it with thin-set mortar to create a waterproof barrier.
Getting impatient with drying time - I know you're eager to get those tiles up, but give the mortar enough time to cure properly. Jumping ahead too soon can compromise the entire installation
