Accoya Decking

Accoya Wood Decking is modified wood decking which have been modified by a patented process called acetylation. This chemical modification enhances the natural properties of the wood, making it more durable and dimensionally stable than untreated timber.
How is Accoya Made?
Accoya wood is modified by a process called acetylation, in which acetic anhydride is introduced into the wood cells. This treatment alters the molecular structure of the wood, making it:
- More resistant to rot and decay
- Less likely to warp and swell.
- More dimensionally stable
- Resistant to insect attack
The process is non-toxic and doesn't involve the use of harmful chemicals. The wood is FSC-certified, meaning it comes from responsibly managed, fast-growing forests.
Key Features of Accoya Decking
Durability: Accoya resists rot, major cracks, and insect damage. Performs well in harsh climates and heavy usage. It's backed by a 25-year warranty.
Low Maintenance: Accoya differs from so many decking materials in that it requires no regular coating, staining, or sealing. It simply needs the occasional cleaning with water and a brush to maintain its appearance.
Barefoot Friendly: Accoya remains naturally cool in hot weather and resists splintering, making it comfortable for bare feet.
Stability The minimal movement in the wood means that decking boards stay in place, and the gaps remain consistent. This creates an even surface that lasts.
Sustainable: Made from fast-growing FSC-certified timber, the product is 100% recyclable and has the lowest carbon footprint of any decking material. No toxic chemicals are used in production.
Natural Appearance: Accoya is not composite, it is real wood. It naturally ages over time to a beautifully silvery-grey patina without compromising its integrity.
Accoya vs. Other Decking Materials
Accoya vs. Pressure-Treated Wood: Pressure-treated wood uses chemical preservatives and needs much more maintenance. Accoya is chemically modified at the molecular level, without toxic additives.
Accoya vs. Tropical Hardwoods Accoya uses fast-growing, sustainably sourced timber. Tropical hardwoods often come from slow-growing trees and are sometimes illegally logged. Accoya is the eco-friendly alternative.
Accoya vs. Composite Decking: Composite decking is manufactured from plastic and wood fibers. Accoya is 100% real wood and much lighter, which makes for faster, easier installation. It's also more sustainable and recyclable.
Accoya vs. Standard Softwood: Standard softwood decking-such as pine-needs regular maintenance, warps easily, and doesn't last that long. Accoya is modified to overcome these issues without using toxic treatments.
Accoya Decking Colours
Natural Accoya Decking
Real wood that weathers naturally to silvery-grey over 2-4 years. Can be left uncoated or treated with oil or stain for custom finishes.
Accoya Slate Grey Decking
Wood dyed throughout the core with a consistent anthracite-grey colour. The colour will not fade or peel because it is integrated into the wood, not a surface coating.
