Glulam beams, also known as glue laminated timber (GLT), are designed to support extensive spans and significant structural loads. Their strength, versatility, durability, and aesthetic appeal make them ideal for numerous residential and commercial framing projects.
These beams are supplied standard in appearance grade B and cambered with a vertical radius of 600m.
What is Camber
The term ‘camber’ refers to a slight curvature or bend, commonly describing arches, trusses, or beams. It provides additional structural support across wide spans by counteracting deflection caused by loads.
Cambered beams are generally supplied with a marking stamped on the top edge of the beam. Unless specifically requested (such as for large cantilevers), cambered beams should not be installed with the camber arch facing downwards.
What is glulam used for
Glulam is ideal for structural applications requiring support of significant loads or extended spans. These beams are perfect for use as bearers, rafters, columns, or posts. Glulam can be applied as lintels above large windows, doors, garage openings, or roof beams, especially where design demands long, uninterrupted spans.
What is Appearance Grade B
This grade is designed for painted applications where surface aesthetics matter, with a machine-planed finish that meets the No. 2 dressed surface standard as specified in AS 2796.
