Coach Screws
Read more
A Coach Screw, also widely known as a Lag Screw or Lag Bolt, is a heavy-duty fastener designed primarily for making strong, load-bearing connections in timber. Despite sometimes being called a "lag bolt," it is technically a large, robust screw rather than a bolt, as it does not require a nut for fastening.
Common Uses
Given their strength and ability to be installed from a single side, coach screws are the go-to fastener for heavy-duty construction in wood:
- Structural Woodworking: Connecting large timbers, such as those used in deck framing, pergolas, gazebos, and post-and-rail fences.
- Heavy Fixtures: Attaching heavy items like large gates, metal brackets, or wall plates to a wooden frame.
- Metal to Timber: Securing metal structural connectors or brackets to wood.
- Masonry: When used in conjunction with a plastic or nylon wall plug, coach screws can be used for medium-duty fixing into concrete or masonry.
